For instance, if your mailing list has between 9,000 and 10,000 subscribers, you’ll see that it costs $65/month with GetResponse – $4/month cheaper than hosting with Aweber; $10/month cheaper than hosting with Mailchimp and $14 to $144/month cheaper than hosting with Campaign Monitor (Note: Campaign Monitor’s pricing framework not just on the amount of email addresses contained in your database but also the number of emails sent per month.) The only notable service provider I found more economical was Mad Mimi, who charges $42/month ( Note: Mad Mimi’s range of capabilities isn’t nearly as comprehensive as GetResponse’s.
If you have a smaller list of subscribers, GetResponse’s price tag is also very competitive. A list consisting of 1,000 email addresses costs $15/month with GetResponse in comparison to Aweber’s cost of $29 and Campaign Monitor’s cost of $19 to $129. Mailchimp’s price tag for 1,000 subscribers is identical to GetResponse’s while Mad Mimi offers a slightly more economical price of $12 yet less functionality.
It’s important to point out, however, that competitive providers present absolutely free accounts for those with smaller lists but these accounts don’t provide the full extent of features that you are provided with the paid option.

Essentially, you create and automation flowchart that tells GetResponse what it’s supposed to do if a users takes advantage of a specific offer, clicks on a particular link and so on. This range of features goes well above what typical autoresponders offer and lets you develop a user map that is customized and with limitless possibilities.

GetResponse provides some incredible all-inclusive reporting and analytics choices. You receive all the fundamentals, of course, unsubscribe rates, click-through, open rates etc, but on top of that you also get some pretty cool features that are definitely worth mentioning, particularly:
The ability to recognize people who didn’t take any action with an electronic newsletter you delivered and place them in a category of subscribers that you can email again with a variation of the newsletter previously sent.

On the other hand, GetResponse’s templates are highly adjustable. You can select layouts, fonts and images easily by making use of the provided controls and, of course, you can just create your own HTML email template and import the corresponding code for it. Also, there are oodles of templates to select from and they are presented to you in simple categories so it’s easy to find a great template to start with and then edit it to your liking
GetResponse was well above its competitors for quite some time with regard to responsive email design which instantly manipulates your electronic newsletter to adjust for those reading it on their mobile device, but most competitors are up to snuff in that regard now. While the drag and drop way of doing things theoretically provides an extremely flexible means to generate content blocks and shift them around within the newsletter, in practice, it’s very tiresome to use and can lead to you accidentally deleting your content or placing it in a wrong section of the newsletter. If you learn how to use it and practice awhile, it is an extremely useful tool.
Generally speaking, I have no significant complaints pertaining to usability. GetResponse needs to make some slight improvements, specifically, with regard to email editing; however, I haven’t recognized any problems that would essentially deter me using the tool for my campaigns. It would just be great to see a somewhat more up-to-date interface.
GetResponse’s support is quite comprehensive. They offer live chat, email support, phone support (9am to 5pm EST) and many online tutorials and resources. The hours are not too clear on GetResponse’s website with regard to when they offer live chat and email support. It would be nice if they clarified that.
GetResponse put themselves above all their competitors by providing phone support. Most of the other companies, apart from Aweber, who offer email marketing solutions have none.
GetResponse provides a landing page creator unlike most of its competitors and one that is mobile responsive on top of that. Providers such as Mailchimp, Aweber or Campaign Monitor all require you go to a paid third party landing page creator such as Instapage or Unbounce.
Nevertheless, unless you signed up under GetResponse’s Pro, Max or Enterprise plan, the functionality of landing pages is quite limited. You can only make one landing page which can only be views 1,000 times/month. Moreover, and vitally important, you cannot use the A/B testing feature that being the system showing you a sample of different versions of your landing page you can offer your users, conversion rates and ultimately instantly giving you the ideal performing landing page. This will no doubt tempt users to sign up for the Pro plan and above. It’s too bad you simply can’t buy this as an add-on ( which, prior to GetResponse introducing it’s new pricing framework, you could. At that time, landing pages cost merely an extra $15/month.)
GetResponse recently launched the ability to host webinars on their platform. Because webinars are essentially used for lead generation, the concept of having your subscriber database and your tool for webinars in the same platform is awesome to say the least. Also, the cost is extremely competitive too in comparison to standard webinar solutions such as Gotowebinar. For instance, Gotowebinar bills you $199/month to host webinars with a maximum of 500 attendees. You can essentially do the same for $165 with a list size of up to 25,000 with GetResponse.
Lastly, Getrespone’s 30-day free trial is fully functional. For example, you can utilize a massive list with it and their offer doesn’t require you to hand over your credit card. That avoids the whole “oh, oh, I totally forgot I signed up for the trial and now I’m being charged for something I don’t even use” scenario.
My Final Verdict
GetResponse is the most economical way to host and communicate with your email list. Here are some pros and cons:
- As long as you’re content using the basic Email plan, GetResponse is more economical than a majority of its primary competitors, in some instances, predominantly so, while providing as much if not more features than them.
- The webinar features is somewhat of a unique selling point and a really strong on at that
- Complete split testing and reporting features are extremely strong
- It delivers responsive emails and permits you to preview your e-newsletter smartphone versions with ease.
- It includes a handy landing page creator although you need to sign up for a more costly plan to get the version that is fully functional.
- The free trial is quite generous. You can check out all of GetResponse’s feature for a full 30 days without handing over your credit card.
- The Marketing Automation feature totally puts it well above similar products
- Comprehensive support including including phone support.
- The drag and drop feature for creating emails can be a bit cumbersome
- The templates a somewhat dated
- The pricing framework is a little bit perplexing with users required to pay a premium to gain access to the landing page creator
- The user interface could use an overhaul. Mailchimp and Campaign Monitor have a crisper and modern back end.
