If you are into glittering jewelry and are fond of bling, you might have stumbled upon Touchstone Crystal.  This company peddles Swarovski crystal jewelry and professes to trace their history back 120 years because of their relationship with Swarovski Crystal yet the company operates as a subsidiary and is merely eight-years-old.

What Is Touchstone Crystal About?

Briefly, Touchstone Crystal is a direct selling multi-level marketing (MLM) company.  Essentially, they sell their merchandise wholesale directly to their independent consultants who then resell their items to consumers at the retail price.

Consultants earn a profit on the difference in price on their sold inventory.  Also, they receive commissions on sales from those they recruited into the company as independent consultants.

Touchstone Crystal has some very unique and sparkling pieces.  Here is just a small sample of what the company offers:

You can buy Touchstone Crystal by heading over to their website and choosing whatever your heart desires; however,  from there, you are advised to contact your local consultant and place your order with them to complete the purchase.

So, you need to purchase your jewelry through a consultant.  You can’t purchase it outright.

Of course, you could decide to become an independent consultant yourself, which would allow you to not only buy Touchstone Crystal Jewelry at the wholesale price, but also profit from selling jewelry to others.

How To Become A Touchstone Crystal Consultant

In order to become a Touchstone Crystal consultant, you first have to buy one of two kits:

Basic Starter Kit $139

Enhanced Starter Kit $299

The Starter kits, Basic and Enhanced, are outfitted with eight and thirteen jewels accordingly along with business tools.  If you would like to establish a website, it costs an additional $9.99 per month.

After you buy your kit, Touchstone Crystal stresses that you sell to other people by hosting home parties.  The company figures you will approximately earn a $200 profit from every party you host.  Here is a more specific breakdown:

So, if you are merely a beginner consultant, you should at least be hosting one party a week at which you will sell on average $700 worth of product and earn $210.  At month’s end, you should have peddled $2,800 worth of product and made $840.

This suggests also that the wholesale costs on the merchandise you buy are approximately 70% of the retail cost.

On top of that, you can make extra cash by recruiting other people into the company and onto your team.  Here is the  compensation you will receive from your downline:

What if you don’t really know if you want to become a consultant, or you simply want to grab a few jewelry pieces at a cheaper price?  Well, you just have to host a party from a current consultant and simply invite your friends and family.  The rewards you receive are illustrated below and involve 30% of sales going back to you in the form of free product.

In theory, while this looks great, there are other pros and cons to becoming a Touchstone Crystal consultant.

Pros

One-of-a-kind gorgeous jewelry – Touchstone Crystal absolutely provides some stunning pieces that glitter and shine.  A majority of people are quite knowledgeable of the Swarvoski name and associated quality.

It’s Evergreen – Jewelry is treated as an evergreen product which means that a lot of people can be convinced to purchase more of it, even if they already possess other jewelry.

Cons

Pricey Product – as this example demonstrates, Touchstone Crystal pieces don’t come cheap.

This may present a problem for a few customers who cannot spend lavishly on items costing $100 plus.  To be fair, the company does have pieces of jewelry priced at $50 and under.  Still, this is not cheap jewelry.

Emphasis On A Warm Market – Touchstone Crystal stresses that you should sell to a warm market like friends and family.  That may work for a bit, but eventually your warm market will drop off.  This is particularly true if somebody has just spent $100 to $150 in merchandise.  It’s highly unlikely that person will come back and make another big purchase anytime soon.

Vague Compensation Plan – Touchstone Crystal’s website doesn’t provide a breadown of its full compensation plan like what precisely independent consultants make at each level.  Also absent is a specific earnings breakdown for your downline and what percentage is passed up to the consultant who recruited them.

You Have To Purchase Product – If you will be continuously hosting parties, you will require something to display besides the pieces contained in those Starter Kits.  Therefore, you will be purchasing Touchstone Crystal jewelry prior to you selling it to anybody else.  Even when it is priced at 70% retail, this isn’t inexpensive jewelry.  And, if the pieces you bought do not sell, you are out the cash you paid for them.

eBay – Why would your customers purchase a $100 necklace from you when they can simply buy the identical necklace on eBay for half the cost or even less?  Yes, eBay presently has 175 auctions for assorted pieces of Touchstone Crystal jewelry, and nearly all are new and are at a discounted price.  More than likely, these pieces are being peddled by ex consultants who gave up on the business and are simply attempting to make up for some of what they lost.

The Final Verdict

Touchstone Crystal has extraordinary jewelry that is certain to catch the eye of others because of its glittering beauty.  However, the business opportunity has a few overwhelming issues, including the stress on a warm market, product expense and a vague breakdown of their compensation plan.  If you sincerely admire the jewelry line, you’d do better hosting a party and receiving a discount on the merchandise.  Regarding Touchstone Crystal’s business opportunity, you’d be better off searching elsewhere.

    Hi Barb,

It really seems that Touchstone has a great product, but great products unfortunately don’t always make great business opportunities. The profit margin on this seems a little low, and the risk margin seems a little high.

Also, I’m really not a big fan of selling to friends and family.

Seems like this may be an opportunity to pass on. Would you agree?

Hi, Paul!  I’m so glad you dropped by and left a comment.  I love hearing from my readers.

Yes, sadly, people fall in love with a product and assume that the business opportunity is just as good, but as you and I both mentioned that’s not always the case.

I, too, am not a fan of pressuring friends and family to purchase products from me which is one of the reasons I personally don’t like multi-level marketing companies.

Some people can be successful with with this business model but, in addition to having a decent compensation plan, you first have to take a hard look at yourself and ask if you have the right type of personality for it.  You have to be comfortable with recruiting and managing a team.  This is why a lot of people fail because they assume it won’t be an issue.

As far as Touchstone Crystal is concerned, I would give it a pass.  There are so many other legitimate and proven business opportunities out there like my #1 recommendation.  You can find out more about it here… and it’s free!

Great review of Touchstone Crystal. I never did like to get into MLM. I hated having those parties. I have tried in the past but never made any money.
I felt bad trying to recruit people too! I think I have a little block when it comes to recruiting people. I really don’t want to bother my friends and family either.

    • Barb

Hi, Cynthia!  Thanks for dropping by and sharing.

Yes, I’m not a big fan of MLMs myself.  Not only do you have to sell, sell, sell, you have to recruit, recruit, recruit to make any kind of life-changing quit-your-day-job kind of income.  Some people are great at and can do well provided you have the right personality for it.

If you are looking for a proven, legitimate online business opportunity, you can do no better than my #1 recommendation …and it’s free!  Click here to read my full review.

Well, I personally ADORE Swarovski crystals, so these are definitely products I could get into.

I’ve never been a fan of MLM though. I do personally know some people who make decent money from them, but it’s not something I think I could do.

I find most of the money is in recruiting others rather than selling the product. That’s from my personal observations anyway, and I don’t like that so much.

Mostly because I’m not very social so I don’t know a lot of people lol, so I’d definitely fail. But, I see how it works for some people and if they make lots of money from it then I’m happy for them!

    • Barb

I’m with you.  I love Swarovski Crystals, but that doesn’t mean Touchstone’s business opportunity is so great.  Yes, people can do well with MLMs provided the company’s training and compensation plan are good, but you really have to have the right personality for it too.

I hate recruiting too.  There are far better and more lucrative ways to earn life-changing amounts of money such as my top recommendation.  If you are looking for a proven, genuine way to create a successful online business, you can learn more about this amazing opportunity here.

      Cheers!
